What the hell are you doing?! (2023)

本作は楽器とビデオのための作品で、ニコニコ動画やYouTubeなど、動画投稿サイトのコミュニティにおける「音MAD」と呼ばれるサンプリング音楽の手法を用いて作曲されている。タイトルの「What the hell are you doing?!」は、YouTubeに無断アップロードされたアニメの切り抜き動画の英字幕からそのまま引用されている。作曲の方法としては、まず、インターネットで拾ったいくつかのアニメのクリップを動画編集ソフトで切り貼りし、DAW上での操作を加えてトラックを作成した。次に、そのトラックから聴き取れるピッチを解析し、12平均律の近似値に変換したのち、そのピッチのみで生成された音階をヴァイオリンで演奏した。最後に、その演奏動画を「音MAD」の手法で切り貼りし、トラックと同期して音楽を完成させた。
オーディオ・ビジュアル作品が表現し得るメタ構造を、2次元（アニメ）と3次元（現実）の隔たりを強調する俯瞰的な映像表現によって更に多重なものとする。ブラックアウトのシーンでは、視聴者の顔がディスプレイに反射し、キャラクターは作者と視聴者に言葉を投げかける。

This work is for instruments and video, and was composed using the sampling music technique known as "otoMAD" in communities such as Niconico and YouTube. The title "What the hell are you doing?!" is taken from the English subtitle of a bootleg short clip anime on YouTube. For this composition, I first cut and pasted several clips of anime I picked up on the Internet using video editing software, then edited them in a DAW to create a track. Next, I analyzed the track for pitch, converted it to an approximation of 12-TET, and then played a scale generated solely from that pitch on the violin. Finally, the performance video was cut and pasted using the "sound MAD" method, and music was composed in sync with the track.
The meta-structure that the audio-visual work can express is further multiplied by the overhead video expression that emphasizes the gap between two dimensions: nijigen(二次元) (anime) and three dimensions: sanjigen(三次元) (reality). In the blackout scene, the viewer's face is reflected in the display, and the character throws words at the creator and the viewer.
